BosWash and Megalopolis
BosWash
BosWash is a name coined by futurist Herman Kahn in a 1967 essay describing a theoretical United States. The term is a portmanteau of Boston and Washington, D.C., and refers to the densely populated corridor along the Atlantic coast of the United States. The BosWash region is home to over 50 million people and is a major center of commerce and culture.
Megalopolis
Megalopolis is a term used to describe a large, densely populated urban area. The term was first used by French geographer Jean Gottmann in his 1961 book Megalopolis. Gottmann defined a megalopolis as a region with a population of at least 10 million people and a population density of at least 2,000 people per square mile. The BosWash region is one of the largest megalopolises in the world.
